Apr 15, 2014 · Best answer. This is kind of a tricky question. The GAME was released first above all, and then the trading cards, but that was only in Japan. Pokemon never reached the US until 1996, where BOTH the GAME and the CARTOON were released at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Atlanta. I guess the game comes first :D.
